The Fire Stables

We started out our evening by heading to the newly refurbished Dog & Fox but food was not on the menu so the Fire Stables was the next best venue. A Young's pub, the Fire Stables has a cosy front that serves a comprehensive Bar Menu. The furnishings are comfortable and welcoming - a lovely environment for any meal.

Our start was not a great one however. Having decided to get a drink, a ten minute wait at the bar was finally ended by the bar girl saying that I'd be better off by ordering table service. Finally the drinks arrived, a large glass of Zinfandel Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon. A lovely way to start things - eventually!

On the menu for us were the scotch egg and goats cheese and olive tapenade bites. The bites were delicious although a little difficult to eat as these things are! The scotch egg was amazing, still soft in the middle with a great combination of textures - a crusty exterior with a soft sausage and onion centre. It was a brilliant start to the eating!

For the main, we both went for the spicy lamb burger which were somewhat disappointing considering the high level starter. The burger was not succulent enough and was hardly spicy. The chips, although wonderful, were a little salty for me - I prefer to season my own chips - however they were at the perfect level for my wife.

All in all, the meal was not too bad but when the cost of £55 is taken into account, one has to think that there are better places to eat. Try it and see what decision you come to? Post a reply and let me know your thoughts.
